Promoting Healthy, Active Lifestyles!
The 2018-2019 school year brings a big change to what many of us have known as a mainstay for our physical education programs. After 43 years, SHAPE America and the American Heart Association (AHA) have ended their Jump Rope for Heart/Hoops for Heart partnership, so these two programs will no longer exist, as we know them. In light of this, SCAHPERD and SHAPE America are going in a new direction and one that brings great excitement. We believe this will open new doors to alternative fundraising opportunities that will better benefit teachers, schools and students. We will continue to support strong hearts, strong bodies, and strong minds, but in different ways.
With that said, SCAHPERD has formed a “Joint Projects” Committee, comprised of teachers to create, plan and coordinate our new venture. The committee is charged with creating a fund raising event that will do the following:
If you have any ideas that you would like to share with this committee or better yet, serve on the committee, please contact me, Kym Kirby at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We understand that AHA has already contacted many of you asking you to work with them in their new program, Kid’s Heart Challenge. If that is what your school chooses to do, we fully support that. That said, our goal is to ensure that the schools will get more than 10% of the funds raised for your schools as AHA has promised. We believe that is very important since you do a great deal of work to put on successful events.
SCAHPERD will honor the reduced membership incentive (half-off) for teachers who raised $2000 or more in their Jump Rope for Heart and/or Hoops for Hearts 2017-2018 events through September 1, 2018. Please click HERE to take advantage of this incentive. SHAPE is also honoring their free membership incentive through this date.
We are looking forward to new adventures ahead for you, your schools and SCAHPERD in 2018-2019 to help build strong hearts, strong bodies, strong minds. If you have questions, comments or would like to work with the SCAHPERD joint projects committee, please feel free to contact me.
SCAHPERD, Executive Director
